Chris Ruebens was born in Eeklo (Belgium) in 1975. He started to play guitar at the age of 9. Under the guidance of Peter Gykiere and Wim Van Holderbeke he graduated in the music school of Eeklo in 1994 and received the highest prize. By then he had also learned to play flugelhorn and barytone horn and completed the theatercourse in the same academy. He continued his guitar studies at the Lemmensinstitute in Leuven (Belgium) with Peter Pieters  and earned his master’s degree in 1999. After 2 years of studying with Godelieve Monden he got a specialisation diploma (contemporary and postmodern music) with the highest distinction. In the same year he earned a master's degree for chambermusic.

Meanwhile he had started the Koa Guitar Quartet  with 3 other like-minded students of the Lemmensinstitute (among them Antoon Vandeborght). They released their first full CD KOA in 2005. Since the age of 17 he played and sang in all kinds of blues, rock, pop and disco bands and music theatre productions. In 1999 he started Luz de luna with two Belgian jazz musicians, Peter Verhelst (guitar, oud) and Yves Peeters (percussion). Their music is a well-balanced mix of world music, classical music and jazz while improvisation always remains the core business. A fine selection of their own compositions is presented on their album Moods (2010). In 2008 Chris has moved to Vilnius and joined the Baltic Guitar Quartet.

Chris enjoys teaching the guitar and receives more and more recognition for his compositions. Besides pedagogical pieces he has published works for solo guitar and guitar quartet. The style can be described as eclectic and sometimes improvisational, but always with a strong sense of structuring and development.
