Zigmas
Čepulėnas became
interested in guitar being 14 years old. He started his studies with
Vytautas
Panavas in Ignalina music school. In 1999 Zigmas entered Vilnius
Conservatoire,
where he studied with Algimantas Pauliukevicius. After two years he
entered
Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre where he studied with Julius
Kurauskas
and received his Bachelor's degree in 2005. Later Zigmas
continued his
master‘s degree studies of chamber music with a longtime member of
National
Vilnius string quartet violinist, prof. Petras Kunca. Meanwhile the
guitarist
had masterclasses with Aleksander Frauchi, Antonio Gonsalves, Jose
Maria
Gallardo del Rey, Reinbert Evers and Corona Guitar Quartet.
Zigmas is
also interested in flamenco guitar and culture. Constantly improving
his
playing style he had masterclasses with the famous flamenco player Paco
Serrano.
Zigmas has won
several Lithuanian classical guitar festivals and
competitions. He has been playing concerts with Vilnius University
Chamber
Orchestra in Lithuania and France. He has also played in Latvia,
Estonia,
Germany. Zigmas was a member of Vilnius Conservatoire Students
Guitar
Quartet. He made several recordings for Lithuanian National Radio. By
making
his own arrangements, Zigmas is enriching classical guitar quartet
repertoire,
adding pieces from symphonic to rock music.
Since 2002
Zigmas is also an active guitar teacher. His students are
winners of national guitar competitions and he is being invited to
competitions
as a jury member in Lithuania and abroad.
